2014 will be a big year for cinema. Here’s a round-up of some of the must-see titles soon to be hitting our screens.
Jan 10 – 12 Years a Slave
This hugely acclaimed film finally hits UK cinemas in January. It starts Chiwetel Ejiofor as a freed slave who is recaptured and sold to plantation owner Benedict Cumberbatch.
Feb 7 – The Lego Movie
If you want something a little more easy-going this might do the trick. The Lego Movie promises to be that one movie you insist on taking younger siblings/cousins to – but only because you secretly want to see it too.
Mar 7 – 300: Rise of an Empire
This follow-up to Zack Snyder’s original action-adventure reunites some original cast members with some new characters including Themistocles and Artemisia. It’s one part prequel, one part sequel and several parts gore.
Mar 7 – The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson’s newest whimsical comedy features Ralph Fiennes as a hotel concierge framed for murder following a dispute over a famous painting. Anderson’s charming, vibrant style promises to make this bizarre film, featuring Adrien Brody, Jude Law and Bill Murray, a memorable one.
Apr 18 – Transcendence
A science-fiction movie produced by Christopher Nolan that featured on Hollywood’s 2012 list of most anticipated screenplays. It stars Johnny Depp as a researcher desperate to develop artificial intelligence, even against the wishes of his friends and family.
Mar 21 – Divergent
It wants to be the next Hunger Games but we’ll have to wait and see if it lives up to the hype. Divergent is an adaptation of Veronica Roth’s first dystopian YA novel and if you can’t wait until November for Mockingjay, this might keep you busy.
May 16 – Godzilla
A big-budget remake of the classic monster movie may not be everybody’s top priority but Bryan Cranston’s prominent role as Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s stepfather makes this significantly more interesting – only this time he’s definitely NOT “the danger.”
